Korky Buchek is made up of two top blokes, Tom Elliott & Peter Sabbagh, who one day downloaded a pirated version of Ableton (shhh don’t tell) and had a bit of a muck around. Cut to 2018 and they’ve gone legit, and are turning out bass-heavy electronica that is grabbing attention of tastemakers and seeing them playing festivals (Mountain Sounds, HARD Festival, The Plot), supporting big names like What So Not and LDRU and smashing out their own headline shows.
Tom & Peter draw their varied inspiration from 90s soul, disco, rock and hip hop, labels like Dirtybird and OWSLA, as well as a collection of their contemporaries that they share studio space with, including Kwame, Savour The Rations, Half Nelson, Lauren and Kymie. This blend of influences comes through in their music, and tunes like ‘All On You feat. Kwame’ showcase their bold but refined style.
Korky Buchek have big things in the pipeline for 2018 – they’re releasing a track a month in the lead up to an EP later in the year, a headline tour kicking off in March and continuing their work as head members of Bodega Collective which focuses on supporting emerging artists and creatives.
The Great Australian House Party has been the birthplace of many noble traditions – Goon of Fortune, the late night Macca’s run, the only acceptable place to listen to the Hottest 100, and being where a stack of our best DJs and producers cut their teeth on the wheels of steel. Korky Buchek earned their stripes in this prestigious company and are now rising through the ranks as some of the most exciting performers this country has to offer. Now, let’s get weird!
